We are living in a moment designed to isolate us. Between the ongoing genocide in Palestine, the emboldened rise of white supremacy, and the terror of ICE raids tearing families apart, the systems at play thrive on keeping us separated, not united. We are constantly pushed toward hyper individualism, sold the illusion that we must stand completely alone to be strong without recognizing that to thrive as individuals, we need ecosystems to lean on.

New York, by its very design, forces us to exist in the plural. Community isn't seen as a luxury or a social club, it’s a survival mechanism.

It’s the alerts that ripple through the block to keep neighbors safe. It’s the mutual aid networks that spring up overnight when the government fails us. It’s the shared space on a crowded train, the open fire hydrants in July, and the defiance of existing joyfully in public spaces.

Water’s Always Running is a visual archive of that resistance.

These pages document the small, stubborn seeds of love that keep this city standing. We believe that noticing these moments is a radical act. If we stop paying attention, we risk losing the very thing that makes us human.

This book is a refusal to let the hardness of the world harden us. As you move through these pages, and as you move through your streets, let this be a reminder to look up and to look out.

We belong to each other.
