The avenue magazine
Served as stylist (2021-2022), associate art director (2022), and finally lead creative and administrative role of creative director (2022-2023) for a fashion and lifestyle publication affiliated with Northeastern University. In addition to leading the creative vision and team on two 150 page issues, I also focused on redefining how we approached creative strategy and production.
By restructuring the team for better collaboration, silos that hindered communication and diluted our brand identity were broken down. Took the lead on art and creative direction, reassessing a cohesive style guide and aligning design, photography, and styling with our overarching vision. Using a hands-on approach to production and project management ensured that every project flowed smoothly, allowing the magazine to showcase a narrative and visual identity that fully connected with our audience.
creative strategy
the problem
The existing structure isolated team members, which stifled communication and diluted our creative vision.
the solution
Implemented a comprehensive reorganization, introducing associate positions to facilitate communication between leadership and staff. Established regular check-ins and collaborative brainstorming sessions to ensure that team members contributed to the thematic development of each issue. A revamped style guide reinforced our brand identity, while dedicated teams for hair and makeup, video, and digital design ensured alignment across all platforms.
Managing a diverse team of over 40 individuals, a culture of creativity and teamwork was emphasized and created a platform where we could efficiently work towards more collaborative and experimental goals as a publication.
art direction
vision + goals
As creative and art director, I took charge of conceptualizing and executing the thematic direction for each issue. I led the design of three extensive photo spreads in two issues, each ranging from 10 to 20 pages, and collaborated closely with the styling, design, and photography teams to ensure a cohesive vision. I tapped into emotional threads and storytelling techniques, creating visual narratives that went beyond simple aesthetics.
My approach was centered on crafting a deeper message that resonated with our readers. I ensured that each spread conveyed not only a compelling story but also contributed to the magazine's overall narrative. By aligning the visuals with the emotional core of the content, I made certain that every image and design element worked in harmony to elevate the magazine from a collection of visuals to a meaningful experience that engaged and inspired our audience..
